As a future teacher I can recommend these actions that would be beneficial for you to take and help you raise your GPA and get you noticed for college:
1. Study hard for the remainder of your 11th grade if you could achieve 3.8 GPA by taking pre-calc and advanced Chem, I am 100% confident that could get 3.8 for the Spring Semester and even 4.0 for the next senior Year.
2. Eleventh grade is the most important grade in your high school career. You are doing great now and that is a huge plus for you. Make sure that you take ACT and SAT and study hard for them the higher the grades better scholarships and it would guarantee your position on the team. Provided that you are a good player and better then other athletes that are applying.
3. I can't stress this enough volunteer show to the college that you are not just interested in basketball, but also in helping your community in general colleges love this. I was able to get a scholarship to college because of my extracurricular activities.
4. If your school offers any classes during the summer take them. In addition, take other classes in the 12th grade. That way you will have all the extra classes which means higher the GPA if you pass them with an A. If your school requires you to have X number of hours to graduate and you have couple of hours more it would show that you are an achiever and you will not stop to better yourself despite previous short comings.
5. Concentrate on your basketball skills. Don't just learn how to shoot the baskets, pass the ball around, but learn the techniques of the game go beyond the call of duty. Learn the rules of the game that only the coach will know. Go on line and research the other teams that you are playing. Go and watch their games and take mental notes so that you will know how to guard against them. However, don't come and watch them practice this is unethical and bad sportsmanship. Learn how to setup defenses, learn how to improve assists, and learn how to be the best that you can be without sacrificing your grades.
When your coach will see that you are going above your call of duty then he will write you a letter of recommendation. As a coach he/she might know other coaches in that particular college. If he/she does not know them, then he would know someone who knows someone who would be able to pass the word about you.
6. If you work quit and concentrate on your future by doing these five things. You are living in home with your parents. You do not need to worry about bills or any other adult stuff. You will always make money for you have a long life ahead of you. Furthermore, you do not need to buy CD’s or movies there are places that you can download them for free.
7. Whatever you do not goof of in your last semester of high school. Avoid that at all costs. Continue to study to gain that GPA. I know alot of kids (including myself) who goofed off during the last 9 weeks of school. My GPA as well as GPA of all of my friends suffered. I went from 3.78 down to 3.58 because I got two C's and one D. I just got very lazy. Until it hit me how lazy I got and had to do an extra project just to get my grade up from a 52 to a 68. I got an A on my final exam and some points for a project.
Other then that good luck.

If half your credits are 2.15, and the other half of your credits are 3.8, then you will make the 3. You might take some extra courses in summer school to get more high grade credits for your average. Talk to your counselor.

I do not understand the comment that you have to have a 3.0 to play basketball. Is a coach telling you that she/he only can give you a partial athletic and the other part will have to academic - and the 3.0 is required?

I hope that you will talk with other coaches too. They might not have these requirements. There is no such thing as a high school GPA requirement just to play college sports. Do you play AAU ball as well as high school? Write to lots of coaches and get them to come see you at AAU tournaments.

Your situation is so typical. Congrats on turning it around.

talk to your basketball contacts at the college. seeing that your last two years in high school will be great gpa wise, they might wave your mistakes from the first 2 years. some will accept a high act or sat score as well if the gpa is below their standards. where are you trying to play ball? i've never heard of a program requiring a 3.00 to play...

no, most high schools only allow classes taken in school to raise your GPA. Your a junior so if you keep up this 3.8 for high school, you should raise it high enough to a 3.0. Good Luck.

It would take a 3.2 to raise your GPA for the year to 2.8, assuming each semester has the same number of credits. (2.4 + 3.2)/2 = 2.8
