I don't do any "real" work on it. Just play games at pogo, read the news, keep up with friends and family. I have a pre-teen daughter who will use it for school research. But other than those it's strictly for entertainment and somethign to do with my time.
We intend to replace the one we have as soon as we receive our tax refund but do not want to spend more than about $500. TOTAL because it's only entertainment for us.
Any thoughts?
Thanks a bunch :)

I am capable of doign minor upgrades myself when necessary and we are expecting an increase in income over the next few months so even if we have to replace in a year's time or so it wouldn't be a problem. In fact we probably will end up getting a REALLY nice system by the end of this year either way adn delegating this one to the children(with appropriate blocks put on it of course).

It looks like a good system for what you need, and it would be a good system to hand on to the kids in a year or so. I dont believe you would need any upgrades. I'm still a little cautious about vista, but only because I dont really have much to go one and dont know anyone who has it.Just like all of microsoft's new systems, it will probably have bugs. As long as microsoft installs patches you should be ok. Good Luck

If your going to replace at the end of the year, go to Circuit City, Best Buy, Office Depot and so on and see if they have any demo systems that still have XP installed. You will pay about half of the list price and get a really good system that will last you until the end of the year or longer.

I think that this will suit you just fine. I bought my dad an eMachine for Christmas and he uses it for the same things. I believe that Gateway bought eMachines and that gives them a little more backing. A huge powerful machine isn't what you need.

Also, go to the dell, gateway, etc websites and try building your own on the websites. You might find it to be cheaper than bestbuy. I wouldn't go with lower than 512 ram and get a mid-range processor speed and it could be awesome.

It depends on what you are going to get. The new gadget that everybody seems to be buying right now is a laptop computer. That might be a better use of your $500.

Its just fine except I would add another 512 memory stick to it, It would still be under $500 and still a good deal.

Looks pretty good for your needs. I would definately think about upgrading the RAM to 1gb.

Unless you plan on doing some very graphics intensive work, or gaming, that will do just fine.
