Yes it absolutely can. It is called "Sick Building Syndrome" believe it or not. Many factors are involved in what can make us sick from a new building, such as chemicals from the fabrics of carpeting, paints, floor coverings and also the ventilation of the building can be poor do to cost cutting during construction. Sick building syndrome can also occur in older buildings that have been renovated for the same reasons.

Many people do not realize that these chemicals get into our body (many also come from our food and cleaning products that we come in contact with) and unless we take action to further cleanse our bodies of these toxins they remain trapped in our body at the cellular level. How many of us ever were taught that we need to clean our cells? Well, we do, just like we clean the outside of our body (or our house or our cars) we need to clean the inside as well because when we get overloaded, it is because our normal elimination processes ( sweating, breathing, urination, etc) cannot handle the overload that has occurred.

An overload of toxins like this in the body lowers our body's oxygen at the cellular level. It was proven over 70 years ago by Nobelist, Otto Warburg, that cancer cannot exist in a high oxygen environment. In other words, according to his research, a body that is being starved of oxygen is a prime playground for cancer to not only develop, but to thrive. Scientific research also states that over 250 diseases are associated with a low pH, or low oxygen level in the body, cancer included.

Wow! Some things to consider:

1. What was the building built on? Was it built on a landfill or toxic waste dump?

2. What materials were used in the building? What kind of insulation? Any mold? How is the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system? What type of furnace & heating source?

3. What materials were used in the offices? Carpeting fibers & glue? Paint? Sealants? Compounds?

4. What is the air quality like in the neighborhood? Any factory pollutants?

The building could facillitate the flu, if the venting is just pushing the germy air around and others are getting the flu from that.

Cancer is something that takes a while to develop if you have only been there a year I doubt it is a building.

Find out what the building is made from. Is the air recirculated? Is the water contaminated? Do they serve food in the building? Is it contaminated? Is the building filled with hostile personalities? Is it a very stressful environment? You have a lot of research to do. Find the answers to these kinds of questions. Then come back her for more answers.

Flu is really contagious, so I don't if the building is to blame, more likely the proximity of people. Try wiping down ALL the surfaces with a disinfectant often. Don't forget telephones, keyboard, mouses. They are the filthiest things in the office.
