i live in austin texas and the city is full of lance armstrong wannabes, they act like they own the road, they dont follow any laws and think they can do what they want in any part of the road, if they are hit or die, the driver of the car is always at fault

i am not sure of an exemption certificate, maybe they have an imaginary one in their minds, or their funny little helmut may be on too tight

Speaking as an accident investigator it has to be said that i accept that cyclists are kind to the environment and for the most part well behaved. However in recent years i have noticed an alarming trend in that more cyclists are dangerously cycling causing problems by this i mean ignoring traffic lights, riding on the pavements, no lights on the bikes and no signals before making a sharp turn at a junction. As i said i am not placing all cyclists in this category but the trend is increasing, over the last few years i have investigated a number of accidents and it is clear that the police put the onus on the car driver to prove his innocence of any offence rather than they prove his guilt. I think we should bring in compulsory training, a cycle MOT and third party insurance for cyclists. The responsible ones like their motorised counterparts would be low risk but the idiot would face various penalties for failing to comply

Cyclists maybe somewhat disillusioned but they have to obey the rules of the road just the same as cars. They are NOT pedestrians as they think. They need to obey stop signs and traffic lights as do drivers and the should use signals as well.
I am not sure where you are located but I am in Ottawa, Canada and bicycle riders face fines the same as drivers do if they do not follow the rules of the road. Typically they be charged if they do not have ID on them if they are stopped and the police can confiscate the bike if they do not have ID.So to all the cyclists out there, if you ride on the road OBEY the law.

Sorry wild_eep I aggree with the question

The majority that I have come accross are plain brain dead. But then so are a great number of the motorists and pedestrians

Alas we drivers are not eligible to ignore such trafic signals

Just polute the air and kill people, burn precious fuel and caus all the delays in the world

What about the damn horse then

how many of you car drivers use your phone whilst driving. i see that more then i do cyclist jumping red lights and i know which one can do more damage.
cyclist should obey to the highway code but then car drivers are not meant to use the phone either.
car drivers need to look a bit closer to home before having a go at other road users.
im not against car drivers i drive aswell.

NO!
Most of the GOOD bikers are kept very busy trying to "NOT GET HURT BY PEOPLE IN CARS AND TRUCKS". They tend to obay all traffic laws and then some.
The NOT-SO-GOOD bikers are just like most of the people driving. They do what they want and everyone else has to go around them.
Statistically, automobile drivers are FAR WORSE drivers than motorcyclists.

I was told that was illegal to push a bike through a red light.

Problem now is, cyclists regards themselves as the great holier than thou brigade. You're not allowed to criticise them because of those nasty car drivers.

Because most people who choose to cycle on a daily basis are eco, tree-hugging freaks who think they are saving the world and because of that, they do not need to abide by any rules or regulations.

Next time you see one do it... Let them go through and then when the lights change for you go right up their ar*e.... and stay there...

I believe that everyone should do their bit for the enviroment but in my experience, most cyclists I come across think that they deserve special treatment because they 'cycle' and do not emit any CO2.... THEY DO MY HEAD IN!!!
