I am volunteering in a 3rd grade classroom and I need to prepare something to introduce myself. Any ideas that would be appropriate for this age group? I was thinking of reading a Dr. Seuss book but I don't know if it's the greatest idea. Any input would be appreciated!! :)

I used this with my first graders: make an 'About Me Bag'. Take a brown paper sack and fill it with items that describe you. I had a menu from my favorite restaurant, my favorite perfume, a candle I love, a picture of my family, a small soccer ball, etc. Students love getting to see the personal side of their teacher. This is a fun way to get then acquainted with you and also is a great conversation starter. I would steer clear of Dr. Seuss in 3rd grade. You could choose a funny poem or another silly book. I would check with the classroom teacher. I'm sure she can give you great ideas since she knows what her students like. Good luck.

I was bored and couldn't sleep once so I randomly turned on the TV and there was some show about the Top 100 Best Rock Songs, and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana was in it. I know the song is a bit overplayed, but when I first heard it, I loved it :D I started listening to a lot of Nirvana and bought a biography on Kurt Cobain, and finished it (twice, lol.) Then my dad introduced me to the Ramones, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, the Clash, and a bunch of punk rock bands, since he was into punk when he was my age. My mom introduced me to Led Zeppelin, Queen, the Rolling Stones, the Doors, Pink Floyd, and other classic rock bands since she was into that kind of stuff when she was younger. I don't listen to Nirvana too much anymore, but I'll still never forget how they changed my life forever :D BQ: My favorite current band is the Animals, and I can't stop listening to We Gotta Get Out of This Place. :D BBQ: Yeah, someone once asked a question about the history of Nirvana. Since I read a biography on Kurt Cobain, I answered it and Yahoo Answers said it was too long and had to be shortened. -.- So I went back and took out a few things and it ended up being about 8 paragraphs, haha. BBBQ: The Doors, Blue Oyster Cult, Aerosmith, The Casualties, 7 Seconds, Suicide Machine, AC/DC, The Kinks, the list doesn't really end...

Ask the classroom teacher about what you should (or should not) do to help you integrate into the classroom.
