The normal length of pregnancy is from 37 to 41 weeks. Postmaturity refers to any baby born after 42 weeks gestation or 294 days past the first day of the mother's last menstrual period. About 7 percent of all babies are born at 42 weeks or later. Other terms often used to describe these late births include post-term, postmaturity, prolonged pregnancy, and post-dates pregnancy.
It is possible to go to 44 weeks, but most doctors won't allow that to happen in this day and age and can usually tell if it was a pregnancy that long.

You could have concieved on March 23rd, especially if you were charting your cycles and can see the thermal shift and the drying up of fertile cm. If you just "think" you ovulated then because you counted 14 days after your period, then the doctor is probably closer to right. Most doctors start you off with a due date based off your LMP and then after doing an ultrasound at around 8-9wks they will adjust it to reflect the results of the ultrasound which is much more accurate for dating than LMP. Certain offices on certain HMO's(I won't mention names) will NOT change the date to reflect the ultrasound or charting, but will stick with the LMP no matter how crazy an unreasonable it is. No doctor would ever give you a due date of 44wks. 40wks is considered text book full term and although many women do go over 40wks, each day over you are at risk for placental abruption, placental failure, and fetal death, so they wouldn't give you are due date that far out. The longest most OBGYN's will let you go over is 42wks. I had to fight like mad to get my OB to let my 5th wait until I was 43wks by their calendar because I knew she wasn't that old and that they had continued to change my due date to favor LMP instead of what the ultrasounds and my fertility chart said.

The normal gestation period is 40 weeks, and they tell you that normally you will deliver between 38 and 42 weeks. They give two weeks before and two weeks after your expected due date. 44 weeks is quite unheard of. Doctors usually do not allow mothers to carry past 42 weeks because the placenta begins to deteriorate at that point. The placenta provides all the oxygen and nutrients to the child, just in case you didn't know.:)Most likely the baby isn't yours but if you still have doubts request a paternity test.

Yes, it is possible to be pregnant for 44 weeks, though most doctors will not let a women go past 42 weeks. When my mom had me (21 years ago) they did not induce her and I ended up being 4 weeks overdue. So, yes, it is possible.

They usually don't let the mother go 10 days past her due date anymore. At least in Canada they don't. My daughter was due May 29th, and I had to be induced on June 8th. Ihave a couple of friends who had babies too and it was the same deal.

she could have been but usually after 40 weeks or even 42 the doctor would definatley enduce labor. if your concerned get a paternity test and if she gets pissed so what you have a right to know and have all the reasons in the world to be doubtful.
but it could be 50-50 yours or his! you both had sex with her but if i had to just guess i would say it was his..........
find out for sure get a paternity test. if she wont you can always get a court order to.

It is possible, but now a days NO Dr. would let her go that far over due and not induce. You may want to check into getting a Paternity test. Good Luck.

It is not likely that it is yours. Doctors do not let pregnancies go past 42 weeks because of the risks to mother and child.
