Personally, I think a lot of the problem stems from the fact that here in the UK, being in prison is almost like being in a hotel.

I have known at least twelve people who have been in prison, and each of them has said that it for the majority of the time in there, life was better then it was for them on the outside.

They have 3 meals a day. Colour TVs. Games consoles. Loads of activities. A plentiful supply of illegal drugs. Allowed to practice "religious" activities.

Basically, criminals have nothing to fear from going to prison, so there is no real deterrent.

Well - instead of turning all the toilets in the prison so that they don't face mecca - maybe they could use that money to build more jails? If the muslims don't like the direction that the toilets face, then they shouldn't break the laws and end up in prison/jail.

No, genuinely, i do no longer. reason being is as a results of the fact there is genuinely no longer a answer to penal complex overcrowding till the "powers that be" end making each and every thing a criminal interest, you recognize, issues like smoking a splash pot, being a gun proprietor, {in the united kingdom}, possessing the incorrect breed of dogs and quite quickly, right here in the U. S. a minimum of, being a dogs breeder. Are those quite punishable offenses? NO, yet, each and every physique is a criminal in the eyes of the regulation these days.

In the US two border patrol good guys doing their job nabbed a dope smuggler with pounds of pot. They got thrown in prison and the doper got amnesty and is suing for millions. But if someone gets caught with pot they can get life for the first offense. What's wrong here when I bet most Americans would be against this why would govt do it?

Wow, I didn't know that. Here is the USA things aren't quite so peachy in jail. I was going to answer that all the drug offenders be let go. Thats a ridiculous thing to go to jail for.
People are allowed to murder a child in an abortion, but they are not allowed to decide to smoke a joint. Thats crazy.

erm...build more prisons? wow, that sounds more like a vacation than a prison cell to me, maybe that's the problem, they dont wanna leave and other criminals might hear how good the prisoners are treated and wanna go there too. maybe should treat them like we do.
