Some of you know i have posted a question if i should get a bird, rabbit and now im thinking a hamster?! I was wondering which one i should get. Can you help? please?

Key:
Post your opinion on which animal i should get, it could even be something diffrent then what i posted, if you think its best.

My house is active durring the holidays, and sometimes in between, but, on weekdays, i have to go to school, mom and dad leave to work at 5:00 am! my sisters are in collage and my aunt is 80 so she sleeps all day. We have no allergies to any animal. we have a big house with lots of room, but only one room where a pet like a rabbit can be them, and it would be confined (pointing to any animal) to the room because we have 4 cats that domminate the house.

Hope that helpes!

thx! ill cheak back soon.

We also have a HUGE yard and have a loving family, but, as i said, it wouldent be able to be in an active place in the house because of the cats, but also our cats, are scared of my rat, freada. lol!

I don't get freaked out by bugs or anything that you have to feed pets, i have seen my sisters python eat a mouse before, and i can wake up to 2 crickets on the floor of my room, because thats what her lepord geco eats. Im fine with whatever the animal has to eat.

Well a bird would be too inviting for your cats, and the cats might cause too much stress for a bird.

A Rabbit wouldn't be able to roam freely amongst your cats.

It sounds like a hamster would be the most secure in your extremely pet friendly house hold, you could even get it one of those habitrail balls to roll around in.

Okay well ive had a rabbit and a bird before and let me just tell you that if your always busy a rabbit is not for you. First, their pee is the worst thing on them. It stinks, really bad, if not cleaned up ryt away. Just as their droppings. Also, they're not that friendly and tend to bite when annoyed. A bird is less of a hazard. Depending on the type they are friendly, and dont need alot of attention. A parikeet can be taught to talk small birds n little tones, which could be used as a source of entertainment during holidays. Never had a hamster so cant help you with that. But you might try a farret. They're really friendly and are almost just like cats.

So, you're looking for a pet that doesn't require alot of attention or care (as things can be busy), something that can be confined, and which will survive a busy life style, but that is there for you if you want to hold it. Got ya.

Bird is a bad choice. They need a lot of attention if you want them trained to like you, and they can get very loud in busy situations or when lonely. Hamster is ok, as is gerbil or guinea pig. Rabbits need a lot of cleaning, and Stink if neglected (literally).

I prefer Anoles, myself. They are little green lizards that you can keep in a community tank with little effort (four or five in a tank). They are fun to watch, as they are very social, and they are easily hand tamed.

They stay in a glass tank, they make very little mess and need VERY little care, and they don't mind activity. Drawback? They eat live crickets and meal worms. If that freaks you out, never mind.

Good luck.

You have a rat named Freada? I used to have a rat named Frieda. Good choice of names!

I don't like pet birds at all. I think it's mean to keep them in cages, but more importantly, THEY'RE LOUD! My mom has a bird (a cockatoo, which is large and louder than a smaller bird), and I hate it. All it does is scream all day long, unless you're holding her or right by her cage talking to her.

I've heard mixed things about rabbits- one person loved her pet rabbits, but another person told me that rabbits aren't very friendly with their owners and don't like to be played with or touched much.

Hamsters aren't as loving or social as rats, but if you're looking for a pet that you don't need to play with much, a hamster might be good.

Out of all your choices (bird, rabbit, and hamster), I would vote for a rabbit. But be sure to do a lot of research online first, to make sure a rabbit would be best for you. (However, I still think if you want a small animal, you should get anther rat or two. Rats love being around other rats, as they are very social animals.)

Good luck with your decision.

Well...rabbits should not be kept in a cage all the time and they are messy little guys. They also chew on everything. Hamsters tend to be nasty and bite. I prefer birds out of all you mentioned but there are many different kinds of birds and some may not be right for you.

i would have reccomended rats to you, but since you don't have so much time, i will reccomend mice.

mice are great little pets, because they will be willing to crawl on your hand and let you pet them, but if you're not in the mood, they couldn't care less. they do require cagemates though, so if you only want one, its probably not the best pet for you. they are very inexpensive to feed, and they are pleased with the simplest toys. they are very amusing to watch. they don't take very long to tame, as they are VERY food motivated. and don't worry about expensive treats, as a cheerio will do. your biggest expensive if you choose mice would be their habitat. i only house my mice in a glass aquarium, and you should too. plastic habitrails are expensive and aren't escape proof. and most mouse cages are definetely escapable.

hope this helps. mice make great pets!

female mice don't stink! female mice don't stink! they don't smell at all! males smell a bit, but its not offensive as long as they are in an aquarium that is cleaned out regularly. also, if you use a pelleted food source, it hardly smells. also try CareFresh bedding. MICE ROCK! DON'T LET MOM STOP YA!
