Its not really a problem, because unless you are buying an OEM version (which I am sure you are not) you will get both the 32 bit version and 64 bit version. They both come in the box with Ultimate, all the other versions you have to request the 64 bit disk from Microsoft and pay shipping and handle. So, just get the 64 bit disk, but install the 32 bit on your P4, then when you get a 64 bit capable, use the 64 bit.

A couple issues here. Only a 64bit processor can run a 64bit operating system. So you have to make sure you have a P4 that is 64bit. If it's one with HT (hyperthreading technology) it should be 64bit. Also there is nothing to push anyone to buying Vista right now. Though the 64bit version is more stable it doesn't have much support for hardware drivers. As of right now and probably for the next 12 moths, XP will still be a better OS. Many testers have concluded that XP as of right now still outperforms Vista. So after about a year Vista should be a great buy, but it doesn't have the support yet so I wouldn't go jumping on it. Especially if you don't have a Core2 Duo or Athlon 62 X2 or better processor. I'm sure Vista will work fine, but it won't perform as well as XP right now.

Only if your P4 is 64 bit.

I use Vista 64 myself & have no issues whatsoever.... but it is a very new HP Media Center PC.

I run a dual boot environment with XP Pro MC on the other hard drive. Vista is generaly faster, but once the novely wears off not so different in day to day applications.
