There is the difficulty of deciding whether this is positive or negative. There is the fear that awareness of potential medical problems will bring you under stress and result in feelings of upset and despair. However, I do feel it is better to know, if the individual seems to have the ability to cope with the bad news. It has been proven that many forms of disease such as breast cancer can be dealt with better if caught in the early stages, before metastasis. It is important to use this information wisely and make sure individuals are given support and information during this process, so the risks are not overexaggerated.

You could plan ahead, but it would be up to individuals. I have a friend who is at risk and I don't know if it has made things worse or better for her. Personally, I would prefer to know if it was something I might pass on to my kids
In cases like cancer, where some activities increase the likelihood of developing a condition, you could do things like avoiding smoking, drinking and sunbed exposure etc., to lessen your chances of developing the condition.

I'd want to know. That way I'd be able to work out how long I might have left to live and do everything I want to do earlier.
