B Mad cow disease. It wasn't around back then because no one had thought up the idea of grinding up downer, diseased cattle and feeding them back to healthy cows and callin it ok. Barb wire ended the long cattle drives because the fences cut across the trail routes and actually caused wars as cowboys would cut the fences, and the fence owner would shoot them for it, the railroad made it unneccessary to drive cattle hundreds of miles to reach a market, and cattle became more home grown, carefully bred for market, rather than just round up the strays and run them to Kansas City.

I would say B. Mad Cow Disease, because that's been an issue in the last several years. I haven't ever heard of it being a problem back in the cowboy era.

I would guess mad cow disease, because I think that it's a rather recent problem, but I don't know.
