I'm confused about the ending of the movie, "The Descent". It shows the woman that survived, waking up and seeing a little girl, the little girl vanishes and all you can see is the woman sitting there and you hear those thing's screaming. Also, why did she kill that woman, that accidently stabbed the other woman in the throat? Wasn't it an accident? That movie didn't end right to me. I don't know if it matters, but I watched the unedited version.

Big discussion about that here http://www.cinemafanatics.com/forum2/477.html
Many people believe it left it open for a sequel.

Watch the interview with the director on the special features on the dvd, he explains it. That was the UK version. In the US version she got out of the cave and drove away and she saw Juno sitting next to her and they cut it there. But in the UK version which is what is on the dvd, that was all a dream and she wakes up in the cave thinking she got out. So the director says he would rather have a character die in the movie but being content with themselves, instead of getting out alive but they have lost their mind. Like she did driving away frantically, screaming like a madwoman. But her being stuck in the cave envisioning she is with her daughter she will die a happy woman. Does that make sense???????? Anyway, like I said watch the interview with Neil Marshall.

She didn't decide to stay in the cave. She was trapped, and couldn't get out. She did have a dream at the end and dreamt getting out of the cave. She also had a few hallucinations. I hope that answers your question. I thought that movie was good for a horror flick.

Re your second question, the woman she killed deserved it because (1) she had an affair with the survivors husband, (2) lied to everyone and took them in an uncharted cave, (3) abandoned the woman she stabbed instead of trying to help her, etc.

Really its up to your own opinion. Many people have different reasons for it. I believe she was having the Hallucination of her daughter after her sub-conscious realized that she was not going to get out. But leaving the movie ending like that is perhaps for the sequel

I've not seen the film yet but thanks for putting in the headline part of your question the fact that a woman survives!
