I live in Hoston, Tx in an apartment. The cable service I have is not good - TV Max - but it is the only one that is available to my complex or I could get satellite but I would rather not. Why dont I have any more choice than just one cable company? Is there nothing we as Houston residents can do to fix this problem. There are other cable companies available to other parts (complexes) of the city. Why don't we have the choice - like the phone and electric companies?

in Houston, there is something like (for lack of a better word) a monopoly set up so that individual cable companies are allowed to have 'whole areas' of a city and no other company can give service to that area. I don't know if this is the case for homes but this is true for apartment living. I do not make this up - it is a sad fact.

This is quite possible in apartment communities. A single cable company will make a deal with the apartment complex, and they become the sole provider of cable service to that complex. Unfortunately, you have no real recourse other than to get a satellite dish or use the provider the have.

I learned the hard way to ask apartment complexes before I move in what their available cable provider options are.

it fairly is not as undemanding as you think of. Cable agencies are allowed to grant provider based on the utility strains created for the time of neighborhoods. using fact those are so extreme priced, frequently basically some are dug and that they are for the interior of reach vendors. So while Time Warner has administration of the few utility strains in my city, different agencies can't bodily flow in without digging extra utility strains (very extreme priced). on an identical time as there is DSL and satellite tv for pc, those technologies at the instant are not as useful as cable (DSL velocity relies upon on how close you're to the unique source and satellites are nonetheless dealing with climate interference). So on an identical time because it could seem such as you may purely walk faraway from a cable corporation, the reality is they do very own interior of reach monopolies using way utilities are prepared.

You are right, but I would rather have tv max than time warner. It happens the same with telephone companies, for example if you live in Humble, your only choice is Sprint.

I'm experiencing the same issue. My complex only allows time warner.

Directv or Dish Network is the only way to go.... get rid of SBS/AT&T as well and go with a VOIP system like Vonage.

Time warner road runner. I agree there should be more choice, but you are exaggerating about only one though.
