If you mean by "everyone" the medical profession, it's because they use a formula of averages to determine conception date/due date. Of course YOU know better than they when you had sex. Of course your due date is also an estimate. You could very well deliver between February 2 and February 7, but you could also go earlier than that or even later. With pregnancy there just are no guarantees. **Note to those that say sperm can live up to 6 days, that is NOT true. Sperm lives 18 hours and eggs live 36 hours (approximately) this can give you a total of 72 hour window of conception. So if you had sex on May 8, you ovulated up to 36 hours before that (1 1/2 days) or 36 hours after that. The May 12 you are getting is based on the "formula" they use for an AVERAGE woman. You may ovulate on the 10th day after your period starts where the average is 14 days, so that is why they are "insisting" you conceived on the 12th. It isn't an exact science.

Sperm can live inside your body upto 72 hrs, so it is possible the egg was not fertilized the day you had sex. There is NO way to pinpoint exact conception of the egg. The May 12 date is just an estimate. Typically you start counting from the first day of your last period.
So you count 40 weeks from 4/28. That would be your due date. I dont' have a calendar in front of me right now sorry!
But if you go to Babyzone.com, they have an interactive calendar and you put in all this info and it gives it for you.

4/28/06 - First day of your cycle
5/09/06 - A little bit fertile
5/10/06 - Fertile
5/11/06 - VERY fertile
5/12/06 - Time to ovulate
It is possible to have had sex on may 8 and be pregnant. Sperm can live inside you for 4-6 days.

Ran into the same problem with my doc we had sex 12/30 and all my doc keep saying that I conceived on 1/14 witch would have imposable seeing that husband was out to sea on 1/7. is all an educated guess. They get closer when they do your first ultra sound. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Well based on a 28 day cycle your :
LMP: 04.28.06
Conception: 05.12.06
First Trimester End: 07.21.06
Second Trimester End: 11.03.06
EDD: 02.02.07
As of today 01.31.07 you are 39.5 weeks pregnant.
The only thing that I can think of is that you ovulated later than ususal. The same thing happened to me. My LMP was 07.09.06, but when they did my ultrasound I was 3 weeks earlier than I thought I was. See, going off my LMP I should be 29.3 weeks pregnant but I am only 26.6 weeks along.

The sperm can stay alive inside you for about 5 days, so even if you had sex on the 8th, the actual day you conceived could very well have been the 12th.

You physically "conceived" on may 8th
Your body though conceived possibly on the 12th. It is not necesarily instantaneous.
Not to mention...conception and due date are all estimated.

It's not exact ever! Sperm can live inside of you for up to 4 days... meaning it could have occured on or around the 12th...Does that help?

Sperm lives in you for up to 10 days! It could have just taken a little time for it to get where it needed to :)

chuffed 2 pay attention somebody having issues merely like me in determining on a ultimate answer........! I too love each and all of the solutions my contacts supplies me......And very the super majority of my contacts are experts, humorous and super while it comes 2 answering................yet I even have 2 p.c.. a ultimate answer... dont I? So I p.c.. the only that strikes me through fact the ultimate ...despite if it doesnt advise I dont savour the different solutions .....i think of maximum of them is conscious that too....! additionally I attempt 2 answer each and all of the question they ask (ie if I kw the respond) with the ultimate excitement 2 the ultimate of my awareness.......without watching for a ultimate answer
