I am an Anne Rice fan, have been for years, but I've never heard of this- apparently there are people out there who believe Lestat is real. I'm not telling anyone what to believe, i mean anythings possible, I was just wondering what makes people believe this.

After meeting with Anne Rice and speaking to her on this matter I came to the conclusion that most of her characters are based on people that she has met in her life, but she gave no indication that Lestat or any of her vampires for that matter are realistic. Anne Rice is a lover of history and alls its mysteries. What better character to write about then a character that is immortal and allowed to experience all different times and events in history. I think her fans are able to easily picture her characters as being realistic because she is so careful with keeping her history accurate and using filling in details of history that are yet still a mystery that you are unable to as a reader to say whether or not it really happened that way. You can fly to europe and visit the places she speaks of and see the finer details. Anne and I spent hours talking history and it really is her greatest passion, as well as her ability to question. As to all the rumors that she is having health issues I can tell you that she is trying to start a new life after Stan's death and after years of questioning religion that just didn't give her the facts she has no other choice than to believe in something right now. Also Anne Rice is almost completely blind and for the past few years has had another person type and assist in the writing of her novels making it difficult for her to do her normal intense reasearch and find the right words for what she is trying to say. You can see that her writing has become less detailed and more simplistic.

I think people want to believe Lestat is real because it might satisfy some longing within themselves. I believe he is a fictional character only. However, there have been times in life when I've wished I could be immortal, and in those moments, it might be nice to imagine that Lestat is real.

People want to believe it because it speaks to something inside of them and satiates desires both subtle and gross.

I like the movie. Don't believe in vampires, though.
