It is pretty hard to learn from home, it is better to go to classes. But if you can't - here is a couple of places:

http://www.ballroomdancers.com/Dances/Default.asp
they have short free videos with demonstrations of steps
http://www.dancesport.uk.com
they have good instructional DVDs

You can purchase videos to learn salsa at home. I would research the types of salsa (cuban style on1, puerto rican on2, new york style on2, colombian, etc.) and choose the one that works the best for you and that you like. After you have decided that then finding a decent instructional video is fairly simple by searching online. A person can't become a proficient salsa dancer from videos alone however. It really improves one's dancing when they go out to different places and dance with different partners, to get a feel for the various styles of leading men use and how to appropriately follow. (i.e. some men are more agressive with it, some are not at all, etc.) Good luck!
