Just use Content filter of Internet Explorer to specify what the kids are allowed to see:

- In the Tools menu, click on Internet Options

- Click on the Content Tab

- Click the Enable Button of the Content Advisor

- On the new dialog box that opens, select a category and adjust the slider to the level you want.

- Select another Category and adjust the slider again. Set the rating level for all 4 categories. At the end, click OK

- Enter a password (if you are asked), to prevent your kids from modifying the restrictions you have set.

- Click OK to finish.

- Close ALL Internet Explorer windows for the changes to take effect.

- Reopen Internet Explorer, make a test by visiting a bad site.

I hope this was what you wanted. Theses settings will block a lot of offensive sites. This works fine with my family. The only down side with the Content Advisor enabled is that surfing gets a bit slower.

Well there are many Child Safe computer programs out there that can help you with that. For Net Protection I hear Net Nanny is good. But one of the best and cheapest thing to do is have the computer in a wide open space where if you walk by you can see the screeen and whats all going on.

First, make sure you have antivirus and anti-malware software installed, and that you do regular backups of your system files. Collect a bunch of bookmarks that they'll enjoy, and install whatever chat program their friends use. Then let the kids know the ground rules:

1 - ask before installing anything

2 - don't give out any personal information online; make up a unique nickname for them to use instead

3 - let them know they can come and talk to you about anything they see or read about on the Internet

Every vice or hateful thought on the web comes from real life. I think it's best to prepare kids for them by teaching about the bad things along with the good. So give them free reign of the Internet - the best teaching tool we've ever had.

Depending on their age, the first step may be to restrict or remove access to the internet. There are vast amounts of porn, spyware, and viruses floating about. Letting a child loose on the internet is as bad as leaving them alone in a major metropolitan city. Chilren should use the internet with a trusted adult present, alowing guidance while protecting from inappropriate sites and information. Programs like netnanny or cybersitter can assist, but the best idea is to watch what your kids do on the net. Its verykely that your children know more about the computer and internet than you do, I know this from my own childhood. I had time and ability to circumvent every step my parents took to keep me away from the "bad stuff". The best protection for your children is being there.

Rip the plug out of the wall..no seriously..it is almost impossible to keep kids safe on these things because the kids are just as smart as we are and they talk to each other about getting around any software you can install.

I get around security systems all the time on these things and I don't even know what I am doing so your kids are probably going to either use someone Else's computer or go around anything you install to prevent them from seeing things they shouldn't..

Rip the plug out and go stone age on them... no computer or stop worrying and trust them to do the right things.. Good luck.

There are a number of things which you can do to make a computer safe for kids to use. If you use Internet Explorer, you can enable the content advisor which filters out objectionable material, such as gambling, nudity, drugs and others. To enable the feature, do the following: on the menu bar, Tools > Internet Options > "Content" tab > click [Enable] > [Apply] > [O.K.] > Restart.

There are also third party applications which can fine tune the material you want to filter out. You can try Naomi which is a free program. Here is the link. http://www.radiance.m6.net/

WHAT IS NAOMI ?

Naomi is an advanced internet filtering program, easy to use and totally free, intended for families, and kids in particular.

Naomi is able to constantly monitor all internet connections, protecting children from inappropriate online material - such as obscene or violent contents; pornography, pedophilia and erotism in the form of images or texts; sites that popularize drugs; gambling games; terrorism; hate propaganda; occultism; sects; blasphemy, etc.

Naomi does not rely on a simple list of banned sites; instead, it examines in real-time all the data being transmitted and received through any internet application - such as web browers, chat programs, news readers, etc.

The filtering technology employed in Naomi features:

* Heuristic analysis capable of recognizing new material automatically.
* Semantic analysis of web pages contents and analysis of their addresses and links.
* Recognizes all the major languages (10+).
* Recognizes ICRA labelling system.
* Monitoring is not limited to web sites, but covers the whole local internet traffic.
* Works with all service providers and software applications, and does not alter settings.
* Allows blocking of file-sharing applications.
* Password-protected (the password is chosen during the installation).
* Easy to use: does not require configuration.
* Can be used on slow connections (it does not perform any download in background).

Supervise their Internet time very closely

Put filters on your computer to block obscene and violent
websights

Place the computer in the living room or an area you can watch
them not in the kids room

Keep them out of chatrooms like Yahoo to avoid predators

Be a parent, don't buy a program that does your parenting for you. Pay attention to what your kids are doing, if your not able to don't let them on the computer until you get home.

Your kids could ask a question on here too, "how do I get into blocked websites?"
