The reality is that you should design for your user's screen, not the other way around. While most home computers have gone beyond 800x600, web designers still need to design for this size for the sake of laptops, most of which are this size or smaller.

Also, while there are many fullscreen tricks for pop up windows, this practice is fading, because many users don't like having their windows messed around with without asking. Even ones that do ask are not as common as they used to be. I wouldn't design for larger than 1024x768, but all you can really do then is put a note about screen size on you landing page and hope the visitor doesn't have a smaller monitor.

The reality is the design has to work for both you and your visitor.

Just put a note on the web page stating what resolution it's designed for. Even if you could automatically change a visitor's hardware settings, most of us would not appreciate it.

You can count on most visitors being having 1024x768 or better, but common practice is still to design to accommodate the small minority using 800x600. The Y!A site, for example, still fits an 800 pixel screen.

IMO...800 X 600 is far outdated.

On our website, only 9% of visitors have this screen resolution.

I've never heard of a script that can change this...it would be complex and probably wouldn't sit very well with the visitor. After they leave your site, their resolution would be stuck on whatever resolution you chose.

A great resource is: webmonkey.com

I've been using those guys for years. Good tips.
Also maybe try phpbuilder.com

avoid using pop-ups. May do not like this intrusion.

It is also image: porn wites used tons of popups.

Now most people use POPUP blockers tio prevent pop-ups

My suggestion: just have a statement:

this page is designed to be viewed at 1024 x 768 screen resolution

You could do something like sniffing for the hight and width of the user screen... adjust the css depending on the use and/or issue a message to warn them of your preferred setting...
