I was really looking forward to a position in the company. I was even told they are considering me. I went on vacation then, and when I got back, they had already given the position to someone else. I am distressed. I no longer feel for this company. I feel betrayed. Shd I give them the real reason for resigning? I am at work, and I don't even feel like being here anymore. Suggestions please? I ended up crying at my desk.

By "considering" I meant the boss's boss called me and said they wanted to appoint me. And no, no one saw my crying. I hid that. I don't yet know if this is an impulsive decision on my part to quit? This job is not challenging at all. I hate it.

No offense, but crying at your desk is not going to get you anywhere. It just shows you are falling apart and work and not being professional. Work is not the place to cry and fall apart. Can you get some space and distance from this issue? What I mean is, can you separate the emotional aspects from the practical? Like - how easy would it be to find another job doing what you do for the same (or better) money?
When you calm down a bit and can be very clear and professional, why don't you go to whomever is responsible for giving the position away and find out why they did it? Even if you do end up leaving, it could be valuable information for you to have - so you can learn from it. Learning from our "mistakes" is what its all about in life. We don't always learn as much from our successes. Evaluate, think, reflect. Get information. Then, if you still feel it is in your best interests to leave - leave. It is business. Do not make it too personal. Why don't you start getting your resume together and start looking? It never hurts to look, even if you are not sure about leaving. Just start (carefully and so you are not caught at work) putting your feelers out there.
Good luck.

If it means so much to you, then talk to someone at your company about your problem. You don't want to sound like a whining baby or anything, but you should be able to sit down with someone and address your concerns with them in a confortable and mature setting. If you really don't wish to do this or feel that it is futile, then you can choose to resign. There is no reason why you should have to suffer at a job that is not allowing you to grow with them and would leave you crying at your desk. Maybe you should take some time and see what else is out there for someone with whatever background and experience you have...if you find something better and more beneficial to you, then go for it.

you don't have to tell them the real reason, but you shouldn't feel bad because they told you they were CONSIDERING, that makes you a candidate. They didn't say they were giving you the position, so they didn't betray you. You can ask them why they pick the other person, what made the other person the better choice for the job. If it's a valid reason, you should learn and improve yourself.

If you can work somewhere else, then do. I use to work in a place where I was betrayed and I said good-bye because I was getting sick from the stress. Work is not worth being that way.

And in the meantime......put a brave face on.
Consider this........my sister's partner was told on Friday he had ony got 3 months to live. So shape up.

I suggest you leave if you are crying. Not healthy for you to be somewhere that you despise. And yes, that tells you alot about your company. where are you located?
