Terrorism is a real threat and Terrorists entering our country through ou Pourous borders are also a Threat! Congressman Tom Tancredo is addressing this issue, and yet he cannot do it alone, get busy and inundate the White house with e-mails, letters, phone calls, and faxes!!

While the border issue is valid, people like Tancredo are really more interested in capitalizing on immigrant bashing and using those wanting to work to help their families as scapegoats. Ignoring the realities of the economic issues in favor of grandstanding about the 'terrorism' threat is not going to help on either front. And besides, the idea of building a wall to keep out the 'undesirables' is so utterly unrealistic and ugly it makes the Iraq war debaucle look like a grand plan! How about dealing with the realities of our situation, and bring some compassion to the process---we might actually develop a workable solution and build stronger ties with our neighbors and improve our tarnished image in the global community. Just a thought....

I love this argument, because it so clearly betrays ignorance. Every. Single. Terrorist in the U.S. was either a U.S. citizen (Timothy McVeigh, etc.) or here on a legal visa (like the student visas that most of the 9/11 hijackers were on). Terrorists wouldn't risk being caught by entering illegally. So unless you want to shut down all tourism, all international students, all foreign workers (this includes entertainers, prize winning scientists, etc.), then you will always have a way for "terrorists" to enter the country.

Besides, what is Rep. Tancredo going to do, build two walls (Mexico and Canada), 20 feet tall, fortified with barbed wire, landmines, and automatic weapons? Because that is the absolute minimum it would take to "secure" the border. Oh, and of course trillions of dollars to build and maintain (literally).

Border security has greatly improved around the coast of Texas. The reason is our governor is very involved with stopping illegal immigration and crime. Our crime is dropping as the arrests are being made of illegal immigrants who are criminals. Yesterday in the Houston area, law officials arrested a main gang leader of the M-13. Go after your govenor also, as he plays a big role in stopping the problem as much as Washington, since they are doing nothing.

About 99% of the politicians are ignoring the border issue. The average Joe has not ignored it. The politicians refuse to listen to the majority of the people. The politicians want the Hispanic vote since it is the fastest growing population these days.

The true answer is that big business and corporate interests want loose boarders. Illegal immigrants provide a steady source of workers who are willing to work for less money than their American counterparts. As long as big business profits from unsecured boarders unsecured boarders is what we will have.

BIG BUSINESS,the dollar runs this world.Illegals make up around 30% of the construction trades. It's not the low paying jobs they steal,it's alot more than that.I don't believe in amnesty,(guest worker)plan I believe in shipping them all back to mexico, bill mexico for shipment.Really secure our borders.Don't do like Arnold in California and offer health insurance to the illegals children! That's like putting out honey, hoping the bear won't come!Illegal is just that, why give them more breaks?
