Every Mosaic law dealing with sex, from not letting one's "seed" touch the ground, to not having sex with a menstruating woman, to not "sleeping with mankind," to marrying one's widowed sister-in-law, had to do with ensuring that there were more Hebrews/Israelites being born as quickly as possible to strenghten the tribe (against the competition from other tribes) simply by force of numbers. There wasn't any issue of morality, just practicality.

Just a thought. I may be wrong. Often am. But not usually.

You're correct in that the goal was to increase the number of Hebrews/Israelites. Remember that these people had become corrupt due to their years of bondage in Egypt and this was a way to "cleanse" the people. It wasn't until all who had escaped Egypt had died out that the Hebrews were allowed into the Promised Land. Even Moses didn't enter in.

In terms of the sex laws, it was survival of the fittest and the Hebrews had to be the fittest in order to deal with the various peoples in the Promised Land: the Canaanites, Midianites, Philistines, etc.

The Moses I know is Charlton Heston from the 1956 movie "The Ten Commandments" and he certainly didn't mention those laws stated above. The olden day christians viewed matters differently than we do today, and a lot of what you read from the bible is inaccurate cos the early A.D. christians tweaked with the writings on the scrolls to their belief of the truth at the time, so over the centuries, these passages have been altered over and over again, so much so that the original source is unintelligible.

Yep. They were mostly concerned with carrying on the line as the promised "Messiah" was to come through one of them. No one knew which one though until later. This kept them busy popping out babies and thereby increasing the strength and size of the nation so they were a formidable contender in the world at that time. Moses may have been a lot of things but he was certainly no dummy.

You pretty much got it. Procreate fast and furious, increase your numbers, give lots of rules to follow, and create an enemy. Thats how you control people. Catholics caught onto this and they are very good at using it too.
