1/2 base times height

2007-01-31 05:40:49 · answer #1 · answered by Emilee 5 · 0 0

Area of a triangle is 1/2 base * height. The difficult part is calculating height since this is, by definition, the distance from the base to the vertex opposite the base.

This means you can use any side of a triangle as the base, but if you have a right angle in the triangle you should use this to your advantage since you will have both base and height without needing to do any calculations.

Hope this helps!

Area = 1/2 x base x perpendicular height
where the perpendicular height is the shortest distance from the side chosen as base to the opposite vertex.
The perpendicular height may lie inside or outside the triangle.

Every triangle has three sides and three altitudes. An altitude is the distance of the perpendicular from a vertex of the triangle to the opposite side. The altitude is also called the height. the side to which the altitude is drawn is called the base.

Area = base * altitude/2 = base *height/2.

The area of all triangles are 1/2 length x width.

That's because all triangles are half of a rectangle, whose area is length x width.

It could be

{1/2 * b * c sin (A)} where b, c are sides of the triangle and A is the "included" angle.

Area of a triangle = 0.5 x base x height

Another method to use is trigonometry:
Area = 0.5 x a x b x sinC

The base times the height divided by 2 i.e. bh/2

Alternatively you can use 1/2ab sinAngleC
