I think it's obsurd! When I was 6 years old, I was still playing with those fake toy phones.

Sh*t, when i was 6 I was playing in the mud. Toy phones back then were too big and had to be pulled around with a cord!

So, my answer is a definite no on this one.

Give the kids a stick and tell them it's a doll, or a rock and tell them it's a car LOL

Here is my opinion about this subject. I have 2, 6 year olds. If I new they wouldn't lose it I would give them each one. Not bec they are going to call friends on the phone, they dont call them from the home phone yet. Today is a scary world, they make phones with GPS in them now and if someone was to kidnap my child I would hope their phone would be on them so we could find them + the phone they make for kids have 2 buttons not a dial pad. One will contact a parent and one would be able to contact 911. So yes I dont think it is absurd for a 6 year old to have one. Times are very different from when we were kids to now and you have to keep up with the times! I can tell you aren't a parent :)

To "So many ?s" I do not let my kids go anywhere with out me, they never leave my side unless they are in school but to many kids are abducted from school yards. My boys had a close call in my front yard and my hubby was sitting on the porch. We had to call the police and that was in my front yard! So dont act like it cant happen and you are such the great parent that it couldnt happen to your kids!

I think the phones with four pictures for mom, grandma, or whoever is fine, they're prepaid and the numbers are set and can't be changed. A regular cell phone not at all necessary for a kindergartener or anyone without a job.

No kidding!! I'm j17 and I still don't have a cell phone. What does a 6 year old need a cell phone for. They have a maximum of 5 people they would ever need to call, and most of them need help dialing the number.

I agree, Im not for it and my sons father (were seperated) bought our son who is 7 a phone. In my home he is not allowed to have it in his posession. My son is too young to be alone or go anywhere without my supervision as it is and a cell phone is just not necessary.

Im sure there great for those cool parents that let there young kids leave with there friends or drop them of at the theatre or mall and want to keep in touch with them. Im not that cool of a parent.
