In the deserts of North America, the most common natural disaster is the flash flood. The flash flood occurs when there is a sudden heavy downpour of rain. The clay in these desert is not very absorbent there by causing the flood. Flash floods pose a danger to travelers both in vehicles and on foot because they tend to be extremely sudden and very powerful.

In the deserts of such places as Africa and the Middle East, sandstorms or dust storms are the biggest natural disasters. They are caused by drought and high winds, reaching up to speeds of 75 miles per hour. Poor farming can also be attributed because the crops would not cover the dust and grazing animals would eat plants causing the roots covering the sand and dust to die. These storms can move entire sand dunes and bury homes and markets.

There are also cold deserts. Cold deserts are opposite of hot desert because they rarely ever get warm during the day, like the hot deserts rarely feel cool during their day. Cold deserts receive heavy amounts of snow during the winter. Although no natural discussed in the sites I visited, I would assume it is safe to say that blizzards and avalanches could pose as potential natural disasters. An example of a cold desert is Antarctica, which is 98% solid ice and 2% rock.
