i was scheduled to work at my job from 1pm to 6pm so i thought that i can schedule something for seven and make it on time! I asked my boss if i could go and she said the i could go after all the customers have left. Than i called again after the customers have left and she would not call me and paged that we could all leave in 5 min which turned in to me leaving at 6:20 which made me late for my meeting. Are we not supposed to be asked to stay later not commanded to?

When working with people you run the risk of not getting out of work on time. I worked at a shop and I was scheduled until 5:00 pm (when we closed). But, I RARELY got out of there on time because of people coming in right when we were closing. But, when the people were gone and my duties were finished I was out of there. I am curious why you called your boss again. She said you could leave when the customers were gone, so you should of left when the customers were gone. I don't think you have have to call her to make sure unless she told you to. Next time she tells you when to leave just do that and don't feel the need to call her back again. That way you don't have to stay longer than you have to.

Why ask if you can go? When it's 6pm clock out and leave. If you ask are you not putting yourself in the position of being flexible to stay longer? Take control of your own life and stop blaming others for your weaknesses and/or mistakes.

If you want to keep your job you have to stay until the boss says to go. Your not working full time so its not a matter of overtime
