I've had my navel piercing since september 2006, and hasn't caused me any problems..well, recently, my DUMB BEHIND stopped cleaning it, n it got swollen..not a lot..just a little..it basically looked like a misquito bite..anyway..while the slight swelling went down, blood n puss started coming out, and now my navel hurts like hell! And some of the scabbing came off so now it's kinda raw..I live on campus, 3hrs away from home, so I have no doctor 2 go 2..a friend of mine just tol me 2 keep cleaning it with a soft cotton ball or wash towel..it doesn't hurt as much as it has been, but sometimes it really likes 2 cut up..what should I do since I have no way 2 get anywhere..any other suggestions? And by the way..what in the heezy is sea salt???

Just keep cleaning it in the shower...over-washing it will irritate things. Just use mild soap and make sure you clean off the "crusties", turn the ring through the hole and rinse well.
Sea salt can be found on the spice/baking aisle of the supermarket with the rest of the salt. Just use a pinch in a Dixie cup of warm water & hold it over your navel for a few minutes and let it soak. This will keep help you get the gunk off in between showers with out having to pick it off. The shop where you got pierced should have given you some,if they were a good shop that is. Make sure you dry everything well when you're done.
Navel piercings are the hardest to heal...I trie dit twice and they both grew out. Good luck!

When I first got mine peirced, I had the same problem. It turns out I was allergic to whatever kind of metal they pierced it with, so I ended up buying my own ring from the mall. To get the infection out, first I went back to the piercing place where they drained it. ALOT of puss came out. Then I filled a small cup with warm water (as hot as your skin can handle) mixed with Epsom Salt (you can get this at a drug store) And placed it over your navel. It should suck on like a suctionc up, but lay on your back...watch TV or whatever...and let it soak for a good 15 minutes. WHen you get up, and take the cup of water off your belly, you'll see all the crap floating in the water, and it should feel better in a week or two. You have to soak it like, 2 or 3 times a day, as often as you like. Hope that helps!

It's infected and you need to get it taken care of right away. Is there a hospital nearby? Go to the ER if you don't have a doctor. For now, put some hydrogen peroxide on it and keep reapplying it until it stops foaming.

And also, sea salt is just what it sounds like: Salt from the sea.

I would still advise you to see your local GP/Nurse to get it checked over. It may be that you will need a covering antibiotic if there is an infection. The area that you have had pierced is a lovely environment for bacteria to thrive, and if the area is red that may be the start of infection. Get it checked ASAP....Good Luck

You should clean it with sea salt and water. You can get sea salt at your pharmacy

Mine had gotten irritated too. My Nurse Practitioner said not to use polysporin or such things because it irritates it even more (I usually use polysporin on everything)

saline solution. keep it clean. make sure nothing rubs against it. i like neosporin, but most tell you just clean it with saline. i like stronger things like hydrogen peroxide to kill the infection.
