For my son's B'day I bought natural finished tv trays and am in the process of decoupaging each tray top with his favorite pics from fav tv shows. On 1 tray I am applying a handmade checkers/chess board, with a couple of characters from Prison Break (if I can post pics let me know and I will). I used Staples for printing out my pictures (they are fab) then Modpodge for gluing down the pictures, then 3 top coats of Modpodge, then 6 coats of spray varnish. Will this be enough in terms of sealing?? My son asked if there would be staining or if the pics would peel off or if food is spilled can we wipe it clean without taking anything else off? Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!

The Modgepodge itself can be used as a sealer. You've sealed it extra well by spraying 6 coats of varnish on top of that. It's going to be fine! If you're nervous about it, you can reassure yourself by spraying several varnish coats on a paper plate and testing it with liquid.

Easy to do with ordinary material.

1. Select the article, photo, or whatever from a magazine or paper.

2. Get a can of regular CLEAR spray from Walmart

3. Spray the side of paper you want to decompage giving it at least 2 coats drying in beween for an hour or so.

4. Brush apply with a sponge brush two or even 3 coats thinly of regular polyurethane varnish. Let dry betwen coats.

5. Then soak the whole thing in a pan of water submerge it for an hour.

6. get at the back of it and rubb of the paper it will curl up and ball up and fall off.

7 what will be left is an image on varnish of the picture you selected.

8 flatten that out with big books putting a clean white sheet of paper between each side. Dry it good.

9 Glue it to a back of plywood, wood, or whatever and you are done. Be sure to keep it flat between books.
