I am looking to purchase a new desktop computer between the spring of '07 and the fall of '07. I am a diehard Dell fan, but I was wondering what people think of HP computers. I am not 100% set on purchasing a Dell, because if I can find an HP that is better for either cheaper or the same price then I might be interested in purchasing that.

No matter which brand I decide to go with, here are a few things that I need.

-At least an Intel ® Core™2 Duo Processor E6400 or something that is comparable

-Either Media Center or Vista

-NOT LESS THAN 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 4DIMMs

-At least a 250GB HD

-16x DVD+/-RW drive. I need to read and write both DVD's and CD's. Has anyone used HP's light scribe? How does that work-is it a neat thing to have?

-20" digital widescreen or HP comparable

-At least 256 MB video card

-USB 2.0/firewire ports

-Memory card reader ports

-56k modem and wireless. Dell doesn't have wireles built in, but HP does?

Thanks!

They are both the same. They both provide a wide range of consumer products. Most consumers do not want to spend a lot on technology and that is where HP and Dell thrive. Providing low cost consumer products. But that is just it, "low cost". The lower the cost, the more inferior a product tends to be.

I buy IBM/Lenovo equipment because of certain service benefits we get as a university.

Personally, I like dell computers. I have 2 dell laptops that do their jobs well. In general, dell has better prices with their coupons and specials. Right now, they have a 20% off $999 laptop until 2/7 at http://www.24houredeals.com/Dell-coupons-23-mer.html

You can also track the on-line coupons for dell at 24houredeals and have them email you new coupons and specials.

Good Luck

I'm gonna have to go with Dell too. Good warranty service. Plus you can get an HP at Futureshop. That should not happen. Get one built for you if you're really desperate.

HP by its self is better. Not a HP-Compaq. They are wack! Dells are better than them.
