Are the 1980 Oldsmobile Omega's good and durable cars? It's one car I rarely see anymore and they seem to be the rarest of the X-body cars of the early 1980s

I once seen a 1980 Oldsmobile Omega on sale for $300 and it had a V6 engine and it ran good.

Gawd, an '80 Omega? If you're asking if this is some sort of valuable collector car, the answer is no. They were GMs first FWD vehicles and had some braking issues thast were the subject of several recalls. there aren't more of them around because, well, they're probably all junk by now...

No way, I would steer clear of those cars, I did like the pre-1980 Omega's (Nova body), I thought the early 1980s Omega's were ugly, slow, gutless and unreliable cars and the same goes for the early 1980s X-body cars.
I have been noticing that the early 1980s X-body cars are starting to get more scarce during the past few years.

BTW GM's first front wheel drive vehicle was the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado and in 1979 the Cadillac Eldorado and the Buick Riveria switched from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive.

Oldsmobile Omega For Sale

Not that good, not that durable. Even GM admitted they had a lot of teething problems with this line.
But It's $300. What do you expect? If you can get from point A to point B and it looks decent, why not go for it. The X-body Omega did probably have the best looks of the bunch.
Besides, driving it will likely bring back some fond memories (and a lot of bad ones) for guys in their late 40's.

1980 Oldsmobile

It was on the same platform as the 1980 Chevrolet Citation (which was one of the most recalled and troubleprone cars ever built) and therefore I would steer clear of it, styling wise I do like the Omega/Skylark's alot better than the Citation/Phoenix's, I had a friend who owned a 1980 Citation and it was the worst car he has ever owned and it totally died on him after 40,000 miles, I thought they were a very poor replacement to the Chevrolet Nova's.

You have to realize that a 1980s vehicle is 27 years old and must have some problems. Vehicles wear out with usage and this car could have thousands of miles on it. It still might be an excellent car for its age. New parts for 27 year old vehicles, if you can find them, cost as much as new parts for a 7 year old vehicle. Lots of parts may be difficult to locate or expensive.
Good luck.

Same platform as the Chevy Citation.
That should answer your question. Not many of them on the road anymore either
