UGH. Hate that. I guess there's no aerobics without the bad 80's motifs...

Just some humble ideas, off the top of my head....take them as you will.

--It's a leftover from the ballet and professional dance side of things, where much of aerobic *dance* exercise originated in the late 1970s to early 1980s. As in, it's become a cultural norm to work out in tights.

--Tights offer compression and support in ways that are more subtle than actual *formed* support garments. Maybe this is a way to protect muscles and tendons without looking like it.

--Tights are thin, and these days are made with moisture-wicking layers, so it could well be a sweat and comfort issue, or....

--Like in ballet, it is easier to view and judge *form* visually when the clothes are skin-tight and reveal not just posture but precise limb position. After all, in competitive aerobic dance, I understand it isn't just about making it through the workout, like it would be for one of us, but also about "degree of difficulty", rather like the judging in figure skating.

Or....maybe people just like to see how the competitors really look in tight and shiny clothes, I dunno...I was a bit of a gym rat in the late 1980s myself (in my early 20s, college years) and did like that look. So maybe the age of the judges is a factor.

Just some humble hunches....hope this helps. :) Thanks for your time!
