If you have the disc that matches the windows in your computer, like windows95, 98, 98se, etc. Try inserting that disc when it asks you that question. That's all I can think of.

What this message means is that the computer is not seeing the information it needs to boot up. If it started happening after you installed a second hard drive, need to be sure the new hard drive is a higher number in boot order than the original drive.
If you have used the computer with the second drive in it, when you turn your computer on, and it comes to the screen showing the logo of the manufacturer, try clicking an "F8" on your keyboard. This should take you to the basic settings for your computer (also called the CMOS setup). You should have a selection saying something like BOOT DRIVE or BOOT ORDER.
Be sure that it shows "Hard drive C:" as either the first or if it's second, after "Floppy drive A:".
Hope this helps!

Sounds like either the harddrive is dead, or at least the partition table is corrupt. There are a number of utilities out there to restore files from corrupt disks, but most of them require you to have the bad harddrive mounted on a system with a working operating system.
I would suggest pulling the two harddrives out then mounting them as secondary drives on a working machine. The process is relatively simple on PCs; just make sure you've got the master/slave switches set correctly and that your BIOS can see them. Then go into Windows and use a program like PC Inspector (freeware) to scan the bad drives and recover the files you want to your good drive.

Does the PC have a OS installed.... This message only occurs when the boot files of OS files have been removed or corrupted
check your IDE cables on your Hard Drives(the are often gray in color flat ribbon like)
if there are multiple drive make sure one is set to master and one is set to slave....
Do you know what OS is or was installed on the system??
you might be able to use a boot disk to boot the machine...
Enter the BIOS and check the BOOT sequence maybe that is set incorrectly..
If all you need is that files and you want to put them on another desktop type machine just connect the drives to the other pc and set them up as slave drive by moving the jumper.
many different possibilities here hope you find one that works

This message is coming up because netiher hard drive is recognized to have an operatins system installed.
Try creating a bootable floppy that you can put in the drive to boot from.
It's also possible that the BIOS doesn't recognize the hard drives.
You can try to add the hard drives to your existing PC as slaves - then pull your data.
This is definately a difficult problem to try and solve without being there.

If that's type new then take it lower back as issues won't get greater valuable. Insist on a alternative and not a fix. This situation ought to ensue if somebody replaced the bios settings, yet I doubt it. Boot up and carry del or despite it says on the flash exhibit screen for setup, go with the boot tab, and verify what the settings are for boot precedence. All bios are a splash diverse so that's superb as nicely the bios and notice what type that's. Then do a google seek on replace boot precedence (as an instance Award boot precedence) on yet another pc then you quite can the best thank you to alter it. you're able to have the flexibility as nicely on your homestead windows CD if the bios is desperate as nicely to CD first. hard to have faith yet, yet your hard rigidity might have failed. So, if below guarantee take it lower back and get a clean one and don't take any crap.
