Not sure what to do. Keep the empty urn that used to contain my relative's ashes, or dispose of it? No feelings of attachment. How do you dispose of an urn? Does it need to have a cleansing ceremony? Head scratcher

If you are at all religious, consult your spiritual advisor to see if there are any guidelines for that sort of thing.

Otherwise, you just have to go with your conscience. I can see where you wouldn't want throw it in the trash, but maybe there's some place you can donate it for recycling or something.

On the other hand, I found this site that suggests disposing of the urn along with the ashes. In your case, I guess you'd have to return to the site where they were scattered, or select a suitable alternative.

Just chuck it. If you have no emotional attachment, toss it in the trash and be done with it. No cleansing ceremony necessary.

there is no proper way to do it... its your choice. personally I think I might feel uncomfortable throwing it in the garbage so perhaps I would toss it in the river, lake, ocean, bay... say goodbye and let it go. It just seems to be a cleaner, more respectable way with closure, no?
