I love Ann Rinaldi! I would recommend Carolyn Meyer. She has written so many great books: Mary, Bloody Mary; Beware, Princess Elizabeth; Patience, Princess Catherine; Doomed Queen Anne; Loving Will Shakespeare; Marie Dancing; White Lilacs; Jubilee Journey; etc. She has also written some in the Royal Diaries series. I would also suggest Shelley Pearsall: Trouble Don't Last; Crooked River. And I love Katherine Paterson: Bread and Roses, Too; Preacher's Boy; Lyddie; Jip, His Story; etc. Really too many to try to list. Kathryn Lasky is another good choice although not all her titles are historical fiction.
Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson
Penny From Heaven by Jennifer L. Holm
Our Only May Amelia by Jennifer L. Holm
The Teacher's Funeral by Richard Peck
Here Lies the Librarian by Richard Peck

Gary Jennings has a historical fiction series about the Aztecs. I've only read the first of the series (The Aztec) but I really liked it.
And I think it's more fiction than history but Jean Auel has written a series about very very early humans and how they go about their life. I know she based it on as much fact as she could find. It's also very interesting. The first book is the Clan of the Cave Bear.

I recommend prolific author Leon Uris. Specifically, check out _Exodus_ , _Trinity_ and _Mila 18_.
Tracy Chevalier also has written some entertaining books. Try _Girl with a Pearl Earring_ and _Lady and the Unicorn_.
I have also enjoyed David Liss's books. _The Coffee Trader_ and _Conspiracy of Paper_.
