Rude, arrogant, incompetent, she is either affirmative action, or related to or sleeping with some one in authority. There really is no way to handle this situation without risking your job. She is not there because of her abilities so she won't be fired for not getting the job done. Ignore her as much as possible and wait for the situation to change.

You need to voice your concerns to the powers that be, make sure that you are willing to create a working group to help this person accomplish their task. By supplying the, incites that are missing, you make the weak link strong. The company will grow and hopefully the person will too.

Back biting and complaining will tear the other person down, but it hurts everyone more than the person that it is aimed at.

Try to talk to her and ask her if she is having any problem with the job, coworkers or anything like that. Ask her if YOU can be of any help to her.

Sometimes people show their attitude and harsh behavior to hide or to overcome their some sort of scare or hesitant. You try to be nice to her and talk to her, she might NEED you.. and mind you, this might take a long time........

Just wait for her to screw up something big, and see how long she lasts. As for the attitude, see if one of you can get her to be rude in front of a bigger boss or a client. That'll get her out of your hair.

Voice your concern to HR. You probably wont be the first. Employees are not only evaluated by their supervisors, but also their subordinates, in that they are the ones who have to deal with an ineffective, incompetent supervisor.

She's there for some reason. Fear her connections, and plant drugs in her office when you can.
