Oh no! I left the UK over thirty years ago. Is there still the attitude that every man north of Watford wears a cloth cap and all the women walk around all day with their hair in curlers covered by a headscarf? The men wear suits when they go out of a Saturday and the women wear lurex dresses. Come back the 60s, all is forgiven.
We don't live in Ghettos, I doubt if you know the meaning of the word. If you do look at parts of London which are ethnic specific - they could be called ghettos.
Having grown up in the Lake District there wasn't much choice - go south. But after University I was determined either to stay in the North or go abroad. I've been abroad ever since. I didn't want to take your job, I didn't even want to live any where in the South-East. I knew that I would be 'put down' for my occasional broad vowel sound.
We don't scrounge, we work hard. I really thought that was all behind us, now that even the BBC accepts regional accents. Come on you southern winger, welcome to the 21st century!

Hi James,

I live in the south and have noticed that many lucrative contracts have been sent up north. This is a political move because the majority of the labour voters live in the north.

Example, putting a super casino in the middle of chav central.

Certainly, money from the south is being siphoned off to prop up the north. If the tories get back in at the next election everything will come back to the south again.

The division of wealth is a political creation. These things are done not for economic reasons, but to ensure the MP in a particular constituency keeps his job. Politicians are very self serving.

My hubby is a very skilled and highly qualified engineer but he has no intention of going north to work. He shouldn't have to.

Not the best of questions really seeing as I'm a Southerner from Hampshire living and working up North in Lancashire. It's not all one way you know!

As for ghettos I think you might be jealous of where I live, it's grand lad!

Last point, in the last year or two the trend is starting to move the other way.

My ghettos rather nice ,thank you. I live very comfortably and the views from my windows are spectacular--- no grim north or dark satanic mills for me. I ,like the rest of my pals and family have never been terribly rich but we've never been without either. We have also been blessed with the good company of northern folk and I don't know anybody who wants money enough to go and live in the south to get it.

I'm stuck in the Midlands so I've got the Northerners on one side and the Southerners on the other.
I wouldn't want to live dahn sarf, especially in London. Londoners in general think that if it ain't happening in their town it ain't worth bothering with. I've got news for you - there IS a lot happening north of Watford Gap
I'd rather live up north.People are more down to earth and friendly. That means more to me than any amount.
So fortunately for you Southern Softies, I won't be coming after your jobs!
(I wonder how many of the "thumbs down" I'm bound to receive for this will be from Londoners?)

When are you southerners going to wise up and realise that you are working for the banks, big mortgage= interest = work to pay off=profit for bank. No profit for you cos you need a house, capitalist con trick, not hard to see is it
hahahaha you lot all think your wealthy, keep your jobs i don't need one :-) I got LOOOAAADSAH MAAHHHNNY! (ring a bell?)

I'm in Lincolnshire and actually, I see it the other way. You Southerers can't afford the ridiculous prices of property dorwn there, so we have an invasion of people from Kent, Surrey etc. flocking up here and buying our land at what to them are bargain prices.
