It's both your choice actaully. You have a say in what you'd like to be done, but the doctor in the end will discuss the best choice for you and baby. I"m weighting the choice of this myself, it's my third child and my doc said it's easier to induce the second or third time around, but I'm not so sure I want to bring baby out unless she's ready and that is more my choice than the doctors.
If there's something wrong, with you and your baby your doctor may have ruling over the choice on how soon and when to be induced, if no medical reason other than being late, you decide together with the best choice of when.
Good luck!

It just depends on your doctor some allow the induction as a choice within a certain time and other docs say oh well if by this time there is no baby then we will induce but if you are uncomfy and in pain as long as you show signs that its not too early they may schedule you its just something to talk with your OB about, as well it depends on the doctor like i was 4 weeks ahead of my friend who was pregnant we had different doctors i told my doctor that i wasnt comfy and she said not yet cervix was too firm but my friends doc wanted to induce her at like 36-37 weeks because she thought the baby was getting too big when it turns out i went into labor on my own at 2 days past my due date(scheduled induce for next morning) and had a 9 lb baby girl friend got induced at 38-39 weeks and had a 8 lb baby boy so if you are looking to go into labor ask your doctor about scheduling it that worked for me with both of my kids got scheduled and then like a day or two before induction i would go into labor so hope i helped and answered what you wanted

If you are less that 42 weeks - it is up to the doctor. Doctors were on a roll of inducing a lot upon request but then babies that ended up low weight or preemies started showing up because due dates may have been calculate wrong...so the doctor can be sued if they induce too early without medical cause and the baby has problems.

So let the doctor know how you feel...but they have to sign off for the induction.

i was induced at 41 weeks and 4 days. i was sent for a ton of tests (non stess, ultra sounds, blood work etc...) to make sure the baby was tolerating life will inside, and she was. i was induced because my water broke and i still was not in active labor six hours later. i was 2 cm dilated and 50 percent effaced so my body took well to the induction and i delivered 5 1/2 hours later. most doctors will let you go on your own, before 42 weeks if the baby is healthy and you are healthy. if you are not "ready" (not dilated, not effaced at all ) then induction will take a long time. doctors have to follow a protocol, and sometimes your opinion my count, other times it won't. it depends on the situation, and the doctor. a due date is just a rough estimate, not exact. only a small percent of babies are born on their due date. as long as the baby and you are healthy it is best to wait. no doctor will let you go very far past 42 weeks, so they prefer to let it come naturally.

Its up to the doctor. I had this happened to me. I was induced 11 days after my due date. My daughter was born 11 days late. So just hang in there. You will survive. Most doctors will not let you go past 42 weeks.

For a certain amount of time it is a decision made by both you and your doctor. However, your doctor will not want you to go past 42 weeks. The concerns are about more than just a big baby, the placenta becomes old and doesn't do its job well.

It probably varies depending on your doctor or health insurance. My friend was 10 days late and wanted to be induced but her doctor wouldn't do it.

Any medical procedure is done soley by your choice, although your doctor may suggest that you be induced. But remember that they usually have your best interest and the baby's best interest in mind.
