If we as compassionate human beings have a moral obligation for the safety and well being of our fellow man, then why do so many oppose our roles in Iraq and Afghanistan?

To me I feel that we do have compassion for the ones who cant fight for them selves .It is a hard thing to think that people cant fight for them selves , and our kids are not at home they are there and some are dying , this is very hard to understand . Let me say that I watched the Magnicent 7 this morning and to me this is how it is , people that are pressed by bad sometimes need help and a push to help themselves , This is how I see this . I dont like that our kids are going through this , but maybe these people need the push to start taking care of themselves .

I'm sorry but being compassionate is not a moral imperitive. Being compassionate means to suffer along with the other. Furthemore I believe it is very difficult, to say the least, to assume that political interests coincide with moral imperitives. We would like to believe that our country is doing God's will in both Iraq and Afghanistan but that will of God's may not turn out to be what the United States believes was in their best interests.

Because we have a sense of moral obligation to our fellow man RIGHT HERE IN THE USA! What's been going on where you speak has been going on for hundreds of years. And it aint gonna change any time soon with of without our help.
Our senior citizens young children, the folks in New Orleans I could go on and on could use the BILLIONS of dollars spent in the middle east....

Caring and trying to help is one thing; forcing our way of life on an entirely different culture from our own is another thing.

In war, there are winners and losers. Compassionate people want winners and winners. Therefore, compassionate people do not support violent wars in other countries that were initiated by greedy Americans and their gas-guzzling SUVs.

Because the war in Iraq is about controlling other country's natural resources: petroleum, therefore, gasoline! As an American, how would you feel if another country decided to "protect" America's natural resources of, let's say silver???

we (americans) let so many things go that it wasnt a matter of us being compassionate humans....political pressure our own economic ability to survive, let alone our lives here in the free world....The question isnt about human rights in other countries...the real question is if "war" in all its glory is really the right way to solve differences.....

Is Bush still in charge? That is why they oppose our roles. If it were Clinton they would be singing his praises.

I'm not sure you've actually figured out your role in Iraq...but compassion isn't exactly what comes to mind.

like, oh my god dont you know its the new "it" thing
j/k
but seriously i see what your saying. and unlike most people i think the stupidest thing would be to pull out of iraq. i think people got spoiled with that ignoramous clinton (who just ignored it all). people dont relize that peace is just and unobtainable fantasy and they should just pull their heads out of their asses. what i dont understand is how most of our citizens dont care to defend our country from obvious, blatant threats. ahh oh ok im just gonna stop because ill keep going. ughhh
