The alliance has not served the UK well for many years. The US is a right-wing, religion-obsessed nation that is quite different to Britain. It is time for the UK to move towards Europe and away from this loathsome country.

I think I have read some of the most ill informed stupid and abusive answers to this question than I any other I have read. The special relationship is not shared with other countries the americans were there when the UK needed them but it is also the same when the US needed us (remember USAF attacking Libya from UK) The UK derives 80 per cent of its income from the USA not Europe and when it comes to the crunch I would sooner have the US marines backing me up than the French and Italians arguing whether to change sides or surrender

Its some ingredient like a Monty python practice!! And the expenses those fellers are claiming for all this ! ok forget approximately the two international wars in case you ought to l!! Oh God yes!!!!

We are Europeans in every way. If we had followed the German / Scandinavian model we would be far better off now and not embroiled in the get rich quick schemes of the Bush family.

This alliance has always been about the private wealth of people like Reagan and Thatcher and Bush and Blair. They have sacrificed british soldiers lives for their own pockets. These are the real war criminals.

That "loathsome country" helped pulled Europe out of the hands of Hitler in WWII, and kept Russia at bay for years. Don't fool yourself! Without us you would have been owned by Hitler or Stalin! How soon you forget! All of Europe owes America a debt that has never been repaid!

It was this 'loathsome' country that helped to save Europe from obliteration and stopped the spread of Communism from plunging the world into a dictatorship. America has numerous religions because the people have the right to choose and the right to speak and vote. I am grateful to the Americans that I am free to be able to answer your question and give my view.

Frasier has said it all, we are European. In the EU we have a vote, we have influence, we are heard and respected. In the US we have none of these things. I believe the US has a "special relationship" with over 100 nations now, they would take us more seriously if we had some pride and did not behave like a tuppenny whore.

as we all know here in the uk the u.s purposly bankrupted us to make sure they wud become the major world power and reap the benefits of post world war ii world and we are only now recovering ,but i think its the other way round the u.s is doing what we can no longer afford to do ,we are not following but convincing the rich agressive guy to pay the bill and do most of the work ,seriously u cant stand back and let the world do as it wishes its not in our interest ,as for europe we aint spent hundreds of years fighting them off to just jion hands with them our ancestors would turn in thier graves

An alliance is a lot stronger than your petty high school friendships. These are based off of backing eachother up in case one gets attacked. They go back way before you were ever born.

How soon u forget what the USA does for every country... I don't see any one helping us rebuild the 9-11 areas, but we always rebuild everywhere.
We contribute millions to children all of the country before we feed our own hungry/homeless... What has the UK done?
