I know they can't but I don't remember why? My daughter is 11 1/2 months old do you think she's close enough to the appropriate age that I could give her some?

It has to do with the development of allergies...same reason you're not supposed to give them peanut butter or peanut products...

It could be because a little bit of the protein from the egg white is stuck on the yolk and for babies with allergic reactions this is a serious problem. My 7 month old is allergic to egg protein and I wouldn't dream of giving him the yolk just because the little bit of protein would have him break out in hives and have trouble breathing. It's just people saying "better safe than sorry." If you know your child isn't allergic to eggs, then go for it!

When it comes to allergies, it's the egg white that is usually the culprit. You are the parent, if you would like to try eggs with your child, do it. Just keep an eye out for the tell tale allergy symptoms. I gave my 15 month old scrambled eggs before he was one but I know there are no food allergies in my family so I felt okay taking that risk.

It's because of the risk of developing an allergy to the egg whites. It is ok though to give egg yolks which are not as allergenic and are actually a good source of protein.
