I'm not a Sox fan, but I've always enjoyed watching Jason Varitek. He really stunk last season, but I think part of that can be blamed on the effects from injury. At 35, can he bounce back and be a contributor, or are his glory days done?

Tek is definitely not done. He is THE utmost playcaller in the team and knows inside out how to manage the pitching calls. As much as the Sox have great pitchers this coming season, Tek is really the one who will be the cement in that infield.
His bat also produces consistently and prolifically (for a catcher). His injury was the only second time in his career where he had to sit down and rehab.
No, at 35 the guy still has what it takes to have a very good season.

He'll probably hit around .270 but he gets a lot of very clutch hits and will continue to do so. His leadership means more to the Red Sox than Jeter's does to the Yankees. While most players are leaders of one or two aspects of the game, Varitek is a leader in the clubhouse, offensively, defensively and is even the leader of the pitching staff. He gives young and old pitchers confidence. As far as those aspects go, he'll bounce back but offensively I think he's over the hill. He means way more to the team than just a batter.

They haven't really talked much about Varitek, but I agree that he will definitely be a star contributor to the Red Sox this year! This year's team is going to be awesome!!

Being a catcher in baseball, the position takes a toll on your body. He may have two maybe three years left before he retires or plays 1B some.

I think the glory days are gone, but if he recovered he can have one more solid year. Spring training will answer this question.

Not a sox fan.

He plays probably the toughest position in Baseball. His days may be numbered at that position but I can see him retooling himself to 1st base or even at DH for the rest of his career. He's been a great competitor it would not be the same without him.

I think he'll be back but his numbers will be higher than 06 (it stunk) but less than 04/05. Numbers aside, he is essential to the clubhouse as a leader. very essential.
