Does it seem normal to you that an ailing horse receives postcards, religioud symbols and gifts totalling $1.2M, and makes front pages of major publications throughout the US of A, while at the same time our casualty count in Iraq or significant events at home serve as a backdrop, in small print, on the side of the Barbaro;s glam shots? When was the last time the public collected $1.2M to support a veteran who lost his legs? Do you think this is normal and if yes, please explain why? If it's not, why are we so sick?

People don't want to hear about wounded Soldiers. It may make them feel guilty, like they aren't doing their part. They would rather hear about animals.

a lot of people today are animal worshipers. This is a big problem with this country. They care more about a freegin animal than about their fellow human beings (unborn ones included)
On the other hand, it makes me angry that the government doesn't treat the veterans properly. Why do american veterans have to beg like bums? The government should cover all their medical expenses and support them. Heck, they gave their all. I don't think it's up to the public to be helping veterans. They should be well taken care of by the govt. We have our problems as well, have to raise kids, have no insurance, have our own handicaps and we can't offer support. We have no $.

This makes perfect sense in light of our media.

First off, the media and liberals in general cannot afford to let it seem like the USArmy is winning, so, to distract from the recent victory, they spend time covering a poor-animal sob story instead. Since the media opposes the war, they discount anyone involved with it as a villain. There are no heroes in an unjust war. If they make someone out to be a hero, it legitimizes the war.

As for the horse, this was a big struggle. They will make comparisons to New Orleans, the city/horse, fighting for its life despite being wounded so severely and compare the final euthanasia to FEMA abandoning New Orleans to death. Liberal media seek after victims...sad stories...and this horse and all the attention associated with him attracts the pity and vehement right-to-life-PETA-tree-hugging-birkenstock-wearing environmentalists who would pass legislation that protects animals better than legislation that protects us as citizens.
