The best thing that you can do is to rake the carpet. You can purchase a carpet rake at a hardware store or a janitorial supply store. They are fairly inexpensive. Rake the carpet crosswise and then lenghtwise to help the fibers to stand back up. The cleaner you keep your carpet, the less problems you will have with the traffic area

A steam cleaner will remove that.If you don't own one you can rent one.Or you can always buy a carpet spot remover, they really work.I buy the clear plastic carpet runners for heavy traffic areas, they are affordable and you can find them at any Dollar store.GOOD LUCK.
