Whenever a really bad singer is on American Idol the next day they end up on 2 or 3 other shows saying how mean Simon is. Why are we encourging these people? Obviously they're trying to get famous with a stupid act and we're eatting it up.

I agree but, of course American Idol promotes it as well. I have heard that each singer must go through other "judges" before Simon, Paula, and Randy. Because Simon, Paula, and Randy could not possibly listen to 6,000 singers in 2 days. So how do these really bad ones even make it that far? American Idol eats up the publicity! Just watch how Simon acted last night with the last singer...she was bad and Simon kept dragging it out and egging her on!

I have a couple of friends that think that they are great singers and that they could actually win American Idol. Sadly they are wrong. I have never told them that they sounded awful because I didn't want to hurt their feelings but other people have told them that they can't sing. Despite being told that they couldn't sing to save their life, they STILL believe that they are great singers! If Simon were to hurt their feelings then they would have no one to blame but their selves.

In truth majority of people like to laugh at someone elses expense or their mishaps. But its not the fault of AMERICA; its the fault of the singers because they are the ones willingly to dish it out. Everyone knows Simon and there's no excuse on their part to blame him for their bad performance. It's all of (the audience) that agree with Simon too right?

Because most of us are really bad singers and we like seeing people as vocally untalented as most of us getting some air time.

(plus...if you've ever been at a Karaoke bar, you KNOW its we better to follow someone who can't hold a note!)

It's for show ratings, they know they are not going to get through, it is said that they need more air time so they throw these singers in there to "take up space" lets say. Its all showbiz.

Sadly, Misti...people making fools of themselves then being humiliated on national tv makes good entertainment. In the olden days they had gladiators pitched against tigers.

And we think we're civilised and better than that. ????

They get their 15 minutes of fame and we get a good laugh. I haven't watched too much of it, but I saw the guy who sang Gloria and thought he was a dancer on TV. Hilarious

part of the appeal of the show is laughing at the bad singers.. it's one of the reasons the show gets high ratings..

Because we are mean and we like to make fun and feel like at least we're cooler than these kids.

Because some of these people really think that they are good, and for them to realize it they need to hear something negative.
