If you don't meet the required harddrive space, you won't have room to install the program. If you don't meet the required RAM, you won't have enough memory to run the program smoothly. It is usually not recommended to run a program (particularly games) if you only just meet the minimum requirements because some companies have a tendency to print minimum requirements that would result in an uncomfortably slow or buggy playing experience. Also it is not a good idea in general to run an OS with either no harddrive space or no free RAM; you should always leave a buffer zone for the OS to work with.

The minimum is what is needed to run the program. However if there is a recommended requirement follow those. usually the minimum will not allow you to use all of the programs functions as well as the program will probably run extremely slow. The more RAM you have the better, especially for games. Also make sure that if a video card is required that you make your video car is compatible.

It states the requirements becuase that is what your computer must have to run the program. Usually it is on the outside box and you should look at it before buying so that you can see if it will work first. you wouldn't want to waste your money on a program that your computer cant even run.

If you don't meet these requirements the program may not run correctly or it could really mess your computer up. It's just precaution.
