Books are usually more detailed and complete. They tend to change the story when they make the movie. They may add parts to make things more exciting for a movie audience. They may delete parts because of the time constraints of a movie. Also, in a book you get the author's voice, the way he tells the story, the feeling and mood involved. In a movie the director needs to interpret and recreate that voice, and it may not be portrayed the way the author intended, nor will it be portrayed the way you may interpret it when you read. I've never seen a movie that was as good as or better than the original book. It's just not the same.

Sometimes, the movie producers change the ending or the entire movie. With a book, you can imagine what the characters will look like, the setting, the ending, etc. But with a movie, you realize that everything looks different and your image is destroyed. Also, in books, there is more detail because the movies are designed to go in a certain time period, while the book can go as long as it wants to.
I like the books over the movies.

Reading makes you think. Watching movies is entirely passive.
A good author will get you involved in the story, and your imagination works with it.
Pauses are not only possible, but are available at any time.
You can go back a few pages or anywhere else whenever you want to.
You can pause reading to check a dictionary, and learn a new word or two, thus improving your own communication skills, by expanding your ability to converse and/or write.
Reading is the number one way adults learn new words.
Reading shows you how effectively words can be used, and shows you how to use them effectively, which helps you to use them in different ways than you originally knew.
You can learn to appreciate the works of a particular author, instead of viewing an interpretation of his/her work interpreted through the eyes of a movie director, who is working against a script that is often only loosely based on the original story.
Reading can calm you down and excite you at the same time.
You can have your book with you in any room in the home, ready for you to enjoy whenever a reading moment is convenient.

1. There are more characters, details and background in the book.
2. While a movie is over within an hour or two you can continue enjoying the book for the entire time you're reading it.
3. You can take a book with you nearly anywhere but you can't watch a movie anytime & anyplace.

The book offers something no movie can; the use of your imagination. You get pictures in your head of the character, the settings, etc. The Outsiders movie didn't live up to what I had imagined at all.
A lot of the thought kind of writing (like how Ponyboy or another character felt) loses something in the movie, if it even makes it in at all.

The movie might not have stuck true to the book or wasn't exactly like it. They could've changed some scenes or lines. With a book, the images and whatever else like how the characters look like is up to you and your imagination. In movies, there could be poor acting and unrealistic/corny effects. Also, when you watch tv, your brain does abosolutely nothing.

I would definitely say the book. When you read a book, you get to use your imagination. The characters look how you want them to look. Sometimes the movie is disappointing b/c it doesn't live up to your idea of the book.

I prefer a book because i can use my imagination and decide what everything and everyone looks like myself. A film has someone elses opinion about how a character should be or a place should look and i like to decide that for myself. Also i can lose myself in a book more.

when you watch a movie you are stuck with what the director feels was important to convey and you are stuck with the actors ability to convey the character...books are so much more descriptive and allow you to visualize what the author is trying to impart, so much more happens in books than movies......try reading the Lord of the Rings and compare it to the movies.....yeah the movies did an excellent job of covering the PARTS of the book they covered...but they had to leave out so much more, simply because of time constraints...the Outsiders is an excellent book...take the time and read it you will be glad you did

Books allow you to use your imagination, which usually can supply much more excitement than a movie can to any scene.
Books also provide you with more information. No movie has the detail and length of a book.
Good luck!
