I am 28 and I have been smoking almost 10 years. I am trying to quit, but it is so hard. I tried using various stop smoking aids, gum, patches, lozenges, etc, but those make me sick. I find that I am eating myself out of house and home to make up for the cigarettes, but I can't keep doing that. What suggestions do you all have? Please serious answers only, I am really wanting to quit! Thanks So Much!

When I quit smoking, I began by asking myself: Where do I smoke most often? FOr me, it's in the car. So I would NOT smoke in the car. Instead, I would turn up my radio and sing as loud as I could to keep my mouth busy. THat helped alot

Silverado ... as of April I will be smoke free for 6 years. I tried most every kind of pill and patch and nothing worked. I finally quit by asking myself if I "wanted" the cigarette or "needed" the cigarette. At first I had myself convinced that I "needed" the cigarette, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I didn't "need" it I just "wanted" it and before long I felt that I really wanted to quit. I just laid them down and quit. I didn't throw my cigarettes away or hide them. I had them in view and everyday that I didn't smoke I would just mark up a victory. When I felt that I wasn't going to go back to smoking, I threw away my cigarettes. I guess that the time was just right for me ... not easy, but I feel (and smell) so much better.
There are a few things that I feel must be in place in order for someone to quit. 1. You must not be pressured by anyone, this has to be your decision. 2. It helps if you are not in a stressfull situation (most smokers tend to smoke more when stressed).
I wish you the very best in your efforts to quit!

Hey there... I'm also 28 (smoked for 12 years).. Just quit Jan 9th... I took the Zyban pill... You have to keep telling yourself that you WANT to quit, you CAN quit... it's sooo hard... I still want one but I know I have the power not to do it. 22 days for me. You'll notice that you can smell it on other people. Talk to your doctor about it... look up the Zyban plan.. it's a habit breaking pill.. it's actually Wellbutrin... you start taking the pill about 10 days before you quit smoking... you'll just start not really wanting it...
the eating thing... try to replace the foods with carrots, celery, crackers and water... also try working out... it's so much easier said then done. i've gained about 3 lbs... but as my doctor said, you can only do one thing at a time... start working on exercise/diet a month after you quit. GOOD LUCK!!!

Are you married? This is a serious anwswer - get pregnant. It worked for me. I am also 28, was 26 when I got pregnant and I quit the day I found out and never looked back because it just wasn't a choice anymore. My own health wasn't the only thing at stake - sometimes doing it for yourself isn't enough. Or, visit some some hospital patients with lung cancer. Or make yourself google images of smokers' lungs. Print them out and put them on your fridge. If you gain weight, who cares? You can always lose it. Quitting cigarettes is the first priority.

I heard someone say to put a picture of someone important to you on the pack of cig's. That way, when you try to pull one out, you will see the picture and remember why you want to quit. I've never tried this, but sounds like it could help.
If you have "stopped" but found yourself eating a lot, try drinking a lot of water along with apples, carrots & celery. They have negative calories because your body burns more calories trying to digest them than they contain!
Also, try gum. Not nicotine gum, but just regular gum. If you have minty breath, do you really want to eat that snack? Also, you burn calories chewing the gum!
Good luck on your way to a healthier you!

Theres 3 ways that you can stop. one is to stop "cold turkey" meaning to stop smoking. two being the gum and then three the patches. personally I recommended using the patches. You can go to any local Wal-Mart and pick some up.
