I upgraded my computr to windows vista home basic edition and it works fine, even my video card drivers were found. But when i try to open windows movie maker it tells me that my video card does not meet the requirements.

You need a DirectX 9 capable card. I think the cheapest card you can get for Vista is something like the old GeForce FX 5200, which can be found for under $50. Personally I'd spend $25 more, get a GeForce 6600 and be covered for certain- you could even run the Aero interface provided you have enough RAM, but Home Edition basic doesn't have that.
