Am excited and thrilled but don't want to jump the gun and tell parents/friends until it is safe to do so.

They say 12 weeks. I told some people after I found out but not many. I told everyone after 3 months. (My first check-up)

That's totally up to what you feel comfortable with.
Personally, I want to tell my family early, because if something were to happen, I would want their support through that time. So, I'm telling my family at 8 weeks.

Some people wait until the first trimester is over, around 12 weeks, because your risk of miscarriage decreases significantly. Others tell immediately. It all depends on your family and your needs.

But don't feel ashamed or scared - this is a very exciting time in your life and you should be excited!

I told parents and very, very close friends right away. I told my boss as soon as I had my first ultrasound, and saw a healthy baby in there. (I did have one problem with my stepmother, who is a giant, oversized baby, and really had a hard time respecting our wishes to keep the news quiet until the 2nd trimester. We actually haven't spoken for about 6 weeks over it, because my father really tore into her about coaxing the info out of me after promising not to tell anyone!). So, I'd caution you about that little issue, as in hindsight, she wouldn't be on the list of people I informed early.

I intended to wait until I started the 2nd trimester to tell everyone else. But, I've been outed by a few people, who came right out and asked, or announced their own pregnancies, and made me feel funny not to say anything. The rest, though, will find out at the end of the first trimester.

It's a funny superstition, though, because once you have seen the heartbeat via ultrasound and everything looks OK, your chance of miscarriage (according to my dr) is less than 2%.

Oh, and I started shopping for my little one as soon as I saw that beautiful heartbeat, too!

i waited until after my doctor confirmed the pregnancy, which was about 7 weeks into the pregnancy. i didn't want to tell before the appointment because the home pregnacy test could've been a false positive and i didn't want to crush the people who were going to be genuinely happy and excited. when it feels right to you, that's the right time.

Most people wait until the second trimester. I was horribly sick, though, so I had to tell everyone fairly early so they would understand why I was so ill.

After the first trimester should be safe.
