Cookies are the small text file which contains information about the user login.

Once you delete the cookies in the internet options, your session gets expired and you will have to re-authenticate your process. Like suppose if you had logged in to your account, then for some reason you cleared the cookies (your session gets expired). Then you will have to again login to start your new session or to go back to your previous page transitions.

Its a small file stored by websites you visit that identifies some information about you. They are stored in your own PC and are accessible by the same website next time you visit them.

They are usually harmless - but it could also be used by adware software to track which sites you are visiting.
