We're all using the Irish tongue now, silly. Irish is really just English!

I'm from South Bend, Indiana.I know lot's of Irish. The nurses walk around in the hospitals in the the newborn area whispering in a thick Irish brogue,,,,,"God made Notre Dame #1"

It would really depend on where you go to school.

The Northern Ireland Council for Examinations and Assessments (CEA) offer Gaelic as an O-Level course. Not all schools offer this course as teachers of Gaelic (Gaelige) are thin on the ground.

With the rise of integrated schools, however, Gaelic is likely to receive some backing as a subject.

If you live elsewhere in the British Isles, why would you need to learn it?

Because irish is spoken by few people. You will actually get lost in europe or anywhere in the world if apart from your tongue you know only Irish. SO you better learn spanish, Italian or even German.

Hmm ~ I assume you're in Ireland? And are being taught English? I know that I went through over 12 years of school here in USA and never got one word of Irish either. (the educational bastards) LMFAO

Good question. My living in Wales might have had something to do with that I think. Probably the same reason I still don't have a single word of Latvian! Welsh on the other hand...... Nos da.

Ta me go maith as Gaelige (is that right?). Was better at it when i was in school. Stupid language to have to learn anyway, when will we ever use it.
